Panasonic and McAfee team up to protect cars from hackers
Panasonic has announced a new partnership with antivirus software developer McAfee to protect cars from hacker attacks. Together, the companies intend to build a security operations center, which will begin providing its services in 2024.
The center will monitor vehicles on behalf of their manufacturers and check them for signs of hacking, writes Nikkei Asia. When a threat is detected, the operations center will retrieve all necessary information from the compromised vehicle, analyze it and deliver the results to the manufacturer. In this case, the manufacturer will be able to disable the vehicle's on-board systems or release software security updates.
Most likely, the service will be available with a paid subscription.
As the number of autonomous vehicles connected to the Internet grows in the market, there is a growing need to protect them from hackers who can take control of the vehicle remotely. Last month, more than 20 companies in the automotive industry, including Tesla battery supplier Panasonic and Toyota Motor, formed an organization to collaborate against cyberattacks.
