A number of airlines have fallen victim of supply chain attack

Cybercriminals hacked the Swiss information technology organization SITA. SITA provides IT and telecommunications services to 400 organizations, covering around 90% of the entire global industry. According to the company, the attackers compromised passenger data stored on the SITA Passenger Service System servers. These servers operate passenger data processing systems for airlines that are SITA customers.

According to SITA, upon learning of the incident, it quickly took measures to contain the threat. Currently, incident response specialists and third-party experts are continuing to monitor the situation.

The attack on SITA is believed to have leaked data from Malaysia Airlines between 2010 and 2019. In addition, this week, Singapore Airlines also released a statement on a similar incident. Although Singapore Airlines is not a customer of SITA, attackers compromised the data of KrisFlyer and PPS loyalty program members via a Star Alliance partner.

Finnair is another airline affected by the SITA hack. As a result, the data of about 200 thousand of its frequent flyers were compromised.
