Malware found in Google Play Store

Researchers have discovered adware and information-stealing malware on the Google Play Store. At least five of these apps are still available on the store and have over two million downloads.

«Doctor Web» report states that adware apps and data-stealing Trojans were among the most common Android threats in May 2022. Also, a lot of spyware apps have been found in the Google Play Store that can steal information from notifications of other apps. Such malware is mainly focused on obtaining one-time 2FA passcodes and taking over other people's accounts.

Following five malicious programs are still available on Google Play Store:

  • PIP Pic Camera Photo Editor
  • Wild & Exotic Animal Wallpaper
  • ZodiHoroscope - Fortune Finder
  • PIP Camera 2022
  • Magnifier Flashlight

Cyble experts recently have also published a report about malware on the Google Play Store. They managed to find the Hydra banking Trojan on the Google Play Store, which masqueraded as a PDF document manager (Document Manager) with text to PDF and QR code scanning features. Cyble analysts told that the malicious app has been removed from the Google Play Store, but may still be available on unofficial stores.
