Mercedes-Benz recalled 1.2 million cars due to problems with the emergency call system
Mercedes-Benz carmaker has been forced to recall more than a million cars due to problems with its emergency call system.The problem was discovered in the eCall system for sending emergency messages to emergency services in the event of an accident. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), notifications sent by eCall may contain incorrect data.
The problem affects 1 292 258 vehicles in the United States produced from 2016 to 2021, including cars of classes A, B, C, E, GT, S, SL, SLC, CLA, CLS, G, GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE and GLS. According to NHTSA, either an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the communication module software for the automatic emergency call system on the affected vehicles, or eCall will receive over the air (OTA) updates.
