Microsoft emergency patch eliminates Windows 10 BSOD when connecting to Wi-Fi
Microsoft has released an emergency KB5001028 out-of-band update to fix a bug causing Windows 10 to crash when connecting to Wi-Fi over WPA3. As the developers found out, the problem appeared after the release of updates for Windows 10 1909 (KB4598298 – released on January 21, 2021, KB4601315 – released on February 9).
What is known about the bug: as soon as the user connects to a Wi-Fi network using the WPA3 protocol, Windows experiences a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crash. Now everyone is recommended to use WPA3 as it is the most secure protocol.
In addition to the unscheduled update, Microsoft has published several methods that can help users avoid blue screens of death when connecting to a wireless network. If you are faced with a bug, try the following:
• Update your Windows 10 version to 2004 or 20H2.
• Connect to Wi-Fi using WPA2.
• Connect to the network using a wired (Ethernet) connection.
