Application with a trojan was removed from Google Play

One of the most popular QR code scanning apps, Barcode Scanner, has been removed from Google Play since the detection of malware in it. At the time of removal, the program not only had more than 10 million downloads, but was also provided as part of Google's Play Pass subscription, which offers users a number of paid apps and games at a fixed price.

The Trojan in Barcode Scanner was discovered by Malwarebytes after it was reported  by users who noticed strange browser behavior. It automatically opened a malicious website suggesting to install the Cleaner app due to alleged smartphone security problems. As it turned out, the trojan was included  in one of the latest Barcode Scanner updates.
