538,000 Huawei smartphone users have installed the Joker Android malware
More than half a million users of Huawei smartphones have downloaded applications infected with the famous Android malware Joker from the official AppGallery store. Let us remember that this malware subscribes the user to paid services.
Initially, researchers found ten seemingly harmless apps in AppGallery that at the same time contained malicious code for connecting to command and control server (C2). The latter sent the configuration and additional components to the software.
The list of malicious programs included virtual keyboards, a camera app, a launcher, an online messenger, a sticker collection, and even a game. To be able to intercept SMS messages, the software requests access to notifications.
These ten apps were downloaded by a total of 538 thousand users. Doctor Web specialists listed the names of the malicious programs:
